Self Contained Holiday Rental Accommodation

A holiday in Florida is now £532 cheaper than a similar holiday in Provence, South of France. The Daily Telegraph reports that figures calculated yesterday show that the Euro's rise and the dollar's fall against sterling has had a dramatic effect on the cost of holidays in different parts of the world. Last year Florida was among the most expensive holiday destinations.

The credit crunch, higher mortgage rates, and the strong Euro have not put people off foreign holidays. Holidays are now seen as an essentia lpart of life rather than a luxury say experts. Ryanair reports passenger numbers up 19% year on year.

Strong Euro boosts costs of European holidays. The pound has fallen to its lowest point against the Euro since that currency was introduced in 1999 resulting in an increase in holiday costs on the Continent. Compared with a year ago, the pound has fallen 17.5% against the Euro. To compound matters, the price of oil has rocketed impacting on the cost of flights. It's not all gloom though, rents of most self catering villas and apartments are quoted in pounds, and there's always Florida: the US dollar has not climbed against sterling so you should find no marked price increases there.

In-flight mobile phone calls. You should be able to make and receive calls to your mobile later this year while flying. Personally I would prefer to leave the darn thing at home when I go on holiday, but some people are so addicted to their mobile they will welcome the news. BMI and Ryanair have plans to install the necessary equipment. Mobile phones have even hit the sales of postcards as supposedly we are making calls or sending texts to friends and family instead of sending postcards - which usually arrive a while after we get home.

Ryanair has announced it is to increase its flights from Birmingham. New destinations will include popular holiday areas in Spain, France and Italy. Competition with other airlines flying from Birmingah could result in lower prices. No wonder more people now choose self catering villas and apartments rather than package holidays.

National bus passes for 11 million. Anyone over the age of 59 can now travel free on any bus in England between 0930 and 2300. OK for day trips, but it's difficult getting two suitcases on a bus!

The fastest growth sector in foreign travel is ... people seeking dental treatment in foreign countries! About 40,000 people will travel abroad for dental treatment in the coming year because they are unable to find an NHS dentist and private treatment is chaeper abroad.

Ryanair has extended its lowest fare guarantee until the end of September. If you can find a lower fare for a flight to any European destination from all five London airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton and London City), you will receive back double the difference and you nwill be enetered in a draw to win £10,000 in cash. Last year less than 50 people made successful claims.
